What Amenities Are There on Dewees?

While the island is removed from the hustle and bustle of Charleston life, there are plenty of Dewees Island amenities that make the island a great place to live.  Yes, we have no stores or cars, no traffic lights or movie theaters.  But we do have some terrific amenities:

3-4 Miles of Pristine Oceanfront

The length of the beach changes, and at extreme low tide in 2015, we have actually clocked 5 miles of fabulous beach to ride, run, and explore.  There is plenty of room to stretch out, and great shells to collect.

Clubhouse

Huyler House is the community center of the island. Designed in the Lowcountry style with wraparound porches and a great room, dining room, catering kitchen, and Library, the building serves the community at all hours.  The Clubhouse is used regularly for Wednesday Roundtable Coffee,  Happy Hours, Art Shows and Receptions, Card games, Book Club, and other social gatherings.Once a year, all owners get together for our annual meeting at the Clubhouse.

Furnished Guest Suites

The furnished suites at the clubhouse provide overflow housing for owners and guests, as well as a place for lot owners to get to stay on the island and participate in the fun or get to supervise home construction.

Swimming Pool

The swimming pool is salt water chlorinated and open usually from April to October, depending on the weather.  It’s a great place to meet neighbors for lunch or a beverage, and get to know some new friends.  It is located right next to the clubhouse and hospitality suites.

Nature Center and Nature Programs

The nature center at the Landings building is a great resource for learning all about the natural processes and residents of the island.  We have regular nature programs and summer opportunities for learning about everything from coyotes to bioluminescence.

Fishing and Crabbing Docks, Canoes and Kayaks

There are several docks around the island where you can catch dinner and community canoes and kayaks at the dock near the crabbing dock.
